When we pulled into our first RV site, it was like we had touched down on another planet. There is a whole other world of people out there who appear to do this stuff all the time. The campers that we saw in Hershey Highmeadow Campground were of all different types. There were a few like ours (but without the giant "I don't know what I'm doing" rental advertisement emblazoned the side), some trailers, some pop-ups, and a number of gigantic bus-style mobile homes that had all manner of awe-inspiring features. Gotta say, though, that everyone we've met so far has been super nice and helpful and tolerant of our inexperience. As fortune would have it our first site was right along the space shuttle Endeavor. It's captain, "Bob", came right over to help us with our cute little poser camper. Captain Bob was from Virginia and his flight suit that day included a denim shirt with a NASCAR logo on the pocket. It took a few minutes for Bob and me to get in synch with our communications because our rates of speech differed by a factor of two. Despite this initial awkwardness, Bob was super sweet and he helped us hook up our utilities. Our family continued to gawk at his space shuttle and ask him a lot of questions. It turns out that Bob even has a garage at home that he uses to dock his shuttle. Believe it or not, no special training is required to operate that thing legally. I can't even imagine. Maybe that will be our next rental.
A little al fresco dinner at our camp site's picnic table really hit the spot after a really long day. We were already feeling at home in this strange new world.
At 9:00 that night, the campground sponsored a "glow walk." Amaya and I joined a parade of kids and parents adorned with glow sticks. We had a nice tour of this enormous park and got to examine even more of the cool camp sites that people had set up for the 4th of July weekend. My favorite group had a blender serving frozen drinks. It was at this point that I understood why Deb Morandi had been sending me links to novelty light strings like this one. I wish I had bought it.

What a great trip! Hope the collective happiness index remains high!
