Santa Barbara Birthday Party

Neb's Aunt Lori was celebrating her 70th birthday and we were invited to accompany him to the birthday party at her son's house in the Santa Barbara hills. It was an almost two-hour drive from Valencia, but it was worth it. They lived in a gorgeous home overlooking the town and ocean. Huge eucalyptus trees and yew trees framed the views. It was nice to see all of Neb's family again, especially Neb's mom and dad, whom I hadn't seen since his wedding.

All of Neb's cousins had children so there were kids running all over the place. After an awesome "cookout," a soccer game broke out on the front lawn and Keiko and Amaya jumped right in and forgot all about their worries of not knowing anyone there. Funny how that works.

In addition to cakes, one of Neb's aunts made chocolate chip meringues for the occasion. OMG. Unbelievable! I've been trying to think about what to do with all of the eggs that we get from our chickens. I can't believe it didn't dawn on me sooner. It's time to start making meringues, baby!

Not Too Shabby...

Because of the jet lag, I was whipped when we left the party after dark and had to drive back to Valencia. Everyone had a great time, but I'm glad that Neb was driving.
